My opportunity comes from working 20 years as mechanical designer and hoping to land a mechanical aptitude opportunity in Ireland. My wife's parents currently reside in Ireland (West Cork area)and they have encouraged us to move and start a new life there. Which means - you're entitled to work here. So getting a job prior to moving to Ireland isn't required to obtain a visa.

On the other hand, if you do NOT have EU citizenship it's much more problematic. I wrote a Post recently which addressed this very issue. Most teachers are hired by the government (from primary all the way through university level) and budgets have been drastically cut over the past few years of recession. Best thing to do is Google "Teaching positions jobs Ireland" and see what turns up. ... As for work permits: if you read the posts and responses above, that should give you a starting point. But go to http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/migrant_workers/finding_a_job_when_you_move_to_ireland.html. As a non-EU citizen, you'll see that it's tough to get in. If you first find an employment opportunity via Google, reach out to them. Phone if possible - what with Skype etc, it doesn't cost much any more. Then try to develop a relationship - and see what happens. I wish you luck. Visa restrictions here are sort of like the States: if an employer can prove that they can't find a local citizen with the required skillset they can employ a 'foreigner' and get that visa. I suspect it depends on how a) you pitch yourself and b) how the employer pitches your unique skills. Let me know how you get on, will you?
